A trilateral joint defense agreement has been signed between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. Under the agreement, an attack against one of the parties will be considered an attack made against all three.
Ankara emphasized that this step does not represent an alternative to Turkey's NATO membership. Reaffirming the right to self-defense and collective deterrence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Turkish officials noted that the accord will not draw Turkish troops into regional conflicts.
President Erdoğan, who met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Makkah al-Mukarramah, announced that the agreement will advance security cooperation, defense industry projects, and counter-terrorism efforts. Erdoğan stressed that the pact targets no nation and remains open to all brotherly countries seeking regional stability.
