Kadir İnanır, one of the most prominent figures in the history of Turkish cinema and a master actor of the Yeşilçam era, has passed away at the age of 77. The acclaimed actor, who had been battling health issues for some time and was hospitalized in Istanbul on May 14 with pneumonia, lost his life on June 26, 2026, following a period in intensive care and intubation.
Born in Fatsa, Ordu, and originally hailing from Sürmene, Trabzon, Kadir İnanır graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio and Television. He entered the film industry in 1968 and starred in his first leading role alongside Türkan Şoray in the 1970 film "Kara Gözlüm," quickly becoming one of the leading actors of Turkish cinema. Throughout his career, he portrayed dignified, self-sacrificing, and strong male characters in acclaimed films such as "Utanç", "Selvi Boylum, Al Yazmalım", "Bir Yudum Sevgi", "Yılanların Öcü", and "Tatar Ramazan". The master actor, who starred in a total of 182 feature films and 12 television series, received numerous "Best Actor" and "Lifetime Achievement Awards" from prestigious organizations including the Golden Orange, Golden Boll, and Ankara Film Festivals. Most recently, he was honored with the "Face of Our Cinema" award on the 100th anniversary of the Republic for his immense contributions to cinema. Turkish cinema has lost one of its greatest legends.
