Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, who parted ways with the CHP in June following the absolute nullity decision and had been serving as an independent, has officially joined the AK Party.
During the party's first parliamentary group meeting of the new legislative term, President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the official party emblem on Tugay
Addressing the assembly after the ceremony, Tugay highlighted President Erdoğan's leadership and expressed
"Our main objective in politics is to stand up for the forgotten poor in the peripheries of this country, the oppressed whose rights have been infringed upon, as well as our farmers and local merchants. The AK Party is unequivocally the refuge of the voiceless."
