Paris Saint-Germain secured the UEFA Super Cup title by defeating Aston Villa 2-1, thanks to goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué.
Tracing its roots back to the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1955, the competition was officially rebranded as the UEFA Cup for the 1971–72 season. Over time, it absorbed both the Cup Winners' Cup and the Intertoto Cup, eventually adopting its current UEFA Europa League structure in the 2009–10 season. Spanish side Sevilla FC holds the record for the most titles with seven trophies. While Tottenham Hotspur won the inaugural tournament in 1972, Galatasaray remains the sole Turkish team to lift the trophy, securing their historic triumph in 2000.
