According to a decree published in the Official Gazette signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ardahan Governor Mehmet Fatih Çiçekli was relieved of his duties and replaced by Ömer Hilmi Yamlı. The decision sparked protests and strong reactions across Ardahan, where residents called Forum the governor's reinstatement.
Çiçekli, who had recently drawn attention with social media posts promoting local tourism through cycling and sailing festivals, was reportedly criticized by some circles over his athletic cycling attire. However, local residents argue that the governor faced unfair criticism despite achieving significant promotional and social work that local municipalities and NGOs had failed to accomplish.
